Insolvency statistics

The Government publishes quarterly statistics on the numbers and types of insolvencies that have begun in England and Wales.

Quarterly figures published on 6 August 2010 (second quarter of 2010) were as follows:

Total
Company Liquidations: Creditors’ Voluntary 2,911
  Compulsory 1,169
4,080
Receiverships   302
Administrations   777
Company Voluntary Arrangements ("CVA's")   232
1,311
Bankruptcies   14,982
Individual Voluntary Arrangements ("IVA's")   13,466
Debt Relief Orders ("DRO's")   6,295
34,743
Total Insolvencies in Quarter 40,134

These figures show that in the 12 month period to 30 June 2010, approximately 1 in 127 active companies (0.8%) went into liquidation, which is down on last quarter and on the corresponding quarter a year ago. Conversely, personal insolvencies have increased from the corresponding quarter of 2009, with figures including Debt Relief Orders, which only came into effect from 6 April 2009.
